A recent study shows that there is only 10 % growth in the number of Facebook shares while the progress of Google Plus is almost double the growth of Facebook.

1. Better Interface
The interface of Google Plus is sleek which has easy customizable news stream with an option to choose from two different layouts. As the interface is more precise, it is easy to check how many people had left their +1, commented and shared that particular content etc. along with their tiny avatar. Each update title has two sides and the update’s activities can be viewed through the drop-down menu. Inspecting all the information of the shared content on the same news feed page with the slimy interface is an exceptional Google Plus feature.
But Facebook has stacking toolbar on the left side in which the users have to navigate through the network. It has single layout and the Facebook ads share some place in the news feed. Moreover, the interface of the Facebook seems out-dated when compared to the smooth interface of Google Plus.
2. Integration With Other Google Services
The integrating choice of Google Plus with other Google services attracts more users to it. If the Google Plus is being used for business purposes, then it would gain more credibility as it has some SEO benefits. i.e When a company or a product uses Google plus and received +1s for its Google Plus page/shared posts, then it could hold a top position in Google search. Not only for search results, Google will build networking features and tools into all of its online services like Gmail, Google Documents, YouTube, Google news etc.

Google Plus features include Hangouts which is the video chatting mode of Google Plus. A group of people can hangout at the same time with chat and content sharing option. The users can fun with their friends here and the video quality is very good because it is supported by Windows, Mac and Linux.
Video chatting option is enabled in Facebook, but it has been tied up with Skype and it supports one-on-one video chat only.
5. Editing Option Of Published Content
If the users share some data on their circles and typed content has some errors, they can edit their shared post with the option “Edit this Post” which is available in the Google Plus options menu. No need to delete the complete post and spend time to type it again.
In Facebook, there is no such editing option. If the users made some mistakes in the post, they have to delete the post and write all the information again. This might be frustrating and confuse the followers.
6. Sparks
Sparks is in the list of Google Plus features which let the users to find the latest information on their fascinating subjects. i.e. If a user search for “Bill gates”, they could find the latest posts and you tube videos related to the search. There is also a share option existing at the bottom that allows the users to share the found content on their circles.
This easy to find and share content feature is not present in Facebook.
7. Adding And Editing Pictures
In Google Plus, the users can access the photo tab from left sidebar and new albums can be created by using “Upload photos”. After adding the pictures, it is possible to include the names & captions, rotating & reordering the pictures and tag people in the photos. Also the Google Plus uses “Picnik”, a photo editing software to change the effects of the uploaded image which offers quality images to the users.
Facebook is lagging behind the Google Plus for this image editing feature too.
8. Full Control On Shared Posts
People use social networks to share their interesting content/business posts. Google Plus allows the users to have a complete control of shared posts as it can be individually monitored and very easy to control. Posts can be shared to a specific circle/friend, tag them by just typing their name with the prefix of ‘+’, send a notification mail to them about the shared post, disable comments for a particular post and reshares on a post are some of the control based Google Plus features to take care of shared posts.
Sharing of post with link is enabled in Facebook, but the users could experience less flexibility and cannot have the full control over shared information.

Trendrr chief executive Mark Ghuneimannounced in a blog post that the New York-based firm is becoming part of the globally popular messaging service.
"Over the last five years we have led the way in working with real-time data and television, unlocking the power and value of engagement around TV and creating compelling media experiences around content," Ghuneim said in the post.
"We are excited to be joining Twitter's world class team, enabling us to realize bigger opportunities that drive better experiences for users, media and marketers."
Trendrr software tracks and analyzes in real-time social networkexchanges about television shows or ads to provide insights into what viewers think of programming. Internet lifestyle trends include people using "second screens" such as smartphones or tablets to share thoughts on Facebook, Twitter and other online venues.
"Having sat at this intersection of TV and social media for years, we've analyzed data from lots of platforms," Ghuneim said.
"What makes Twitter uniquely compelling among these platforms is its connection to the live moment - people sharing what's happening, when it's happening, to the world."

The word "twerk" — a sexually-charged dance that Miley Cyrus recently displayed at the MTV Video Music Awards — has been added to Oxford Dictionaries Online. Popular tech- and social-media words, including selfie, digital detox, Bitcoin, BYOD, emoji, FOMO, geek chic, hackerspace, phablet, srsly and TL;DR, have also been added.
Listed as a verb, twerk joins other pop cultural words that Oxford has introduced to its print or online editions in recent years, such as lolz, totes, OMG, LOL, mankini, jeggings and sexting.

As example sentences, Oxford Dictionaries lists "Just wait till they catch their daughters twerking to this song" and "Twerk it girl, work it girl." The term originated in the 1990s, according to the new entry.
“There are many theories about the origin of this word, and since it arose in oral use, we may never know the answer for sure," Oxford Dictionaries' Katherine Connor Martin told the AP. "We think the most likely theory is that it is an alteration of work, because that word has a history of being used in similar ways, with dancers being encouraged to ‘work it.’ The ‘t’ could be a result of blending with another word such as twist or twitch."
Here are definitions of other words, acronyms and phrases added to Oxford Dictionaries Online— not to be confused with the elder, more official publication, the Oxford English Dictionary:
Selfie: "A photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website."

| Social Media: New Twitter Feature "Editorialized Tweets" Experiment Lets Users Tweet Highlighted Sentences From Article (Mashable) |
A new feature from Twitter may change the way people share and discover stories.
The New York Times tested a new feature last week that allows users to click on a highlighted sentence from a story, and tweet it out directly, instead of just tweeting the headline. Readers who see the tweet and click on the accompanying link are brought to the highlighted part of the story, rather than to the beginning of the article.
The idea behind the feature was that while a headline doesn't always grab you, an enthralling sentence from the middle of a story may do the trick. Times reporter Dave Itzkoff explained to Poynter his method for determining which sentences to highlight: "Just a bit of educated guesswork trying to imagine what readers would be drawn to and what would make the best traveling billboards for the overall story."

The story that the Times chose — a feature on what it's like to audition for Saturday Night Liveexecutive producer Lorne Michaels — was tweeted 11 times more frequently than "the average of the top 500 shared Times articles from the last month," wrote Twitter data editor Simon Rogers in a blog post.
While the experiment lacks a sufficient sample size, Twitter and media outlets hope that in providing users with a way to tweet content outside of a story's headline, more sharing will occur.
Previously, users could always read a story, then copy and paste an interesting sentence into a tweet.
Now, the new feature allows publications to identify interesting or quote-worthy material for readers. Twitter referred to the new tweet suggestions as "editorialized tweets."
The Times told Poynter that the use of editorialized tweets will not carry over to all of its stories, but rather serve as an experiment, as the newspaper prepares for a site redesign next year. Twitter has not yet announced when the feature will be available for other media outlets to use.
The microblogging site has been actively releasing new features that make it easier to share articles. Last week, Twitter announced a Related Headlines update that automatically lists relevant stories alongside tweets. The feature is meant to provide context to tweets by showing users where they can get more information, if interested.

| Social Media: How Latest Facebook Announcement Will Impact Your Social Media Strategy (JcSocialMarketing) |
Some people love it, some people hate it – and some people love to hate it. Your favorite social network is changing again, and this time for the better.
In an announcement last week, Facebook unveiled their new News Feed FYI blog to “highlight major updates to News Feed and explain the thinking behind them.”
Did you know that on average every time someone visits their Facebook News Feed, there are on average 1,500 potential posts for them to see?
1,500 – that number includes posts from friends, family, co-workers and business/nonprofit/brand Pages!
So how to make sense of all the noise and continually improve the Facebook experience to show you what is most relevant and timely – all tailored to your individual wants and needs?
Enter Story Bumping and Last Actor.
A) The First Facebook Change To The News Feed Is Story Bumping.
I like this one, because it works for people that are not on Facebook all day.
Say my mom goes on Facebook in the evening, and there is a post that received a ton of engagement earlier in the day that Facebook has deemed relevant to her (revisit the EdgeRank algorithm to learn why some things show up in your News Feed and not others).
Story Bumping allows older posts from earlier in the day – ones that are very popular, receiving a high number of comments, shares and likes – to be “bumped” up to the top of a user’s News Feed later in the day.
How much earlier in the day and how far back the posts will go depends on quite a few factors – how many friends you have, how many Pages and people you follow and how many times a day you check in to Facebook. (For more on this, read my posts on EdgeRank.)
Facebook tested out Story Bump with a select of daily active users last month, and saw encouraging results – a 5% increase in engagement overall, an 8% rise in stories seen from Pages (great for your nonprofit Page!) and a staggering jump to 70% in stories read overall!
Now it’s active on almost all desktop users with mobile coming soon. Exciting!
B) The Second Change Is Called Last Actor.
Last Actor calculates and regards the last 50 actions that an individual user has performed on the site. Actions include writing on a friend’s timeline, liking a Page, sharing a photo, commenting.
Of course, Last Actor takes into account EdgeRank to determine what actions are the most relevant to your life – Are you writing on your boyfriend’s page and sharing a photo from a restaurant you frequent?
This change is meant to make Facebook more responsive to real-time, of-the-moment actions that users are partaking in, giving more weight to people and pages the user has most recently engaged and interacted with.
So, what do these changes mean for your social media marketing strategy?
1) Understand That Facebook Is Not Now And Will Never Be Twitter.
Facebook will never show you posts chronologically. Yes, each time you login on mobile and on the desktop you can select the “Most Recent” function, but Facebook isn’t designed to show you posts this way.
Chris Cox, Facebook’s Vice President of Product has often said that there’s a “vital difference in operation” between the two sites.
These operational and philosophical differences require different strategies. Don’t push out content to Twitter and NEVER push tweets to Facebook.
Automated content doesn’t perform as well as content you post on each individual site and tailor to each audience. There are no short cuts.
2) It’s Even More Important Than Ever To Get Your Supporters Engaged.
Actively ask your fans to go to your page and like, share and comment at least once a week. Explain the new changes to them, be excited, ask them for their participation and their thoughts on how to get more Facebook engagement.
This is a great job for Online Brand Ambassadors!
3) You Need To Get Aggressive And Try New Things.
The old way of throwing something at the wall and hoping that it sticks no longer works (it never really did, but even less so now).
Swallow your pride and experiment with Facebook ads and promoted posts.
Try posting at new times of day if the old times are not working.
Figure out what resonates with your community using Facebook Graph Search and share it frequently.
4) Always Remember That It’s Not About You.
It’s not about you and what you want to share on Facebook. It’s about what your fans and supporters want to read and to share, when and where they want to read and share it.
Don’t try to change your online community – change your strategy.
